Things to Do at Wat Rong Suea Ten (Blue Temple)

Wat Rong Suea Ten, also known as the Blue Temple, is a stunning contemporary Buddhist temple located in Chiang Rai, Thailand. Completed in 2016, this relatively new temple was designed by Phuttha Kabkaew, a student of the famous artist Chalermchai Kositpipat who created the White Temple. The temple's most striking feature is its vibrant blue exterior and interior, adorned with intricate golden details and elaborate Buddhist artwork. The temple's name translates to 'Temple of the Dancing Tiger,' referencing a local legend about tigers that once roamed the area. Inside the main hall, visitors are greeted by a magnificent white Buddha statue surrounded by elaborate blue and gold murals depicting Buddhist cosmology and teachings. The temple represents a modern interpretation of traditional Lanna architecture, combining ancient Buddhist symbolism with contemporary artistic vision.

Wat Rong Suea Ten is located about 3 kilometers north of Chiang Rai city center. The most convenient way to reach the temple is by tuk-tuk, taxi, or rental scooter/car from downtown Chiang Rai, which takes approximately 10-15 minutes. Many visitors combine their visit with other temples in the area by joining a temple tour or renting a vehicle for the day.
